About this course
University of Kent offers PhD Film - Practice by Research as a 3-year doctoral Ph.D. programme in Film and TV production. Based in Canterbury, the programme is delivered by the university's specialist faculty and welcomes international applicants from across Africa and beyond.
Tuition is £19,300 per year. English-language entry requires IELTS 6 overall or TOEFL iBT 80. Intakes run across 4 windows (Summer (April), 2026 and Autumn 1 (October), 2026…).

Entry requirements
An MA in a relevant humanities subject. In certain circumstances, the School will consider candidates who have not followed a conventional education path or who may have relevant experience in the industry. These cases are assessed individually by the Director of Graduate Studies or the Director of the relevant Research Group. All applicants are considered on an individual basis and additional qualifications, professional qualifications and experience will also be taken into account when considering applications.
