About this course
University of Buckingham offers Secondary Qualified Teacher Status and PGCE as a 37-year postgraduate Graduate Certificate programme in Teaching and Education. Based in Buckingham, the programme is delivered by the university's specialist faculty and welcomes international applicants from across Africa and beyond.
English-language entry requires IELTS 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT 79. The next intake is Autumn (September), 2026.
Scholarships are available to international applicants. The programme includes an industry internship element.

Entry requirements
You must be employed as a teacher in a secondary independent or state school, be teaching your subject for a minimum of thirteen hours and know about four consecutive school years (teaching in at least two of them). Every year some of our applicants have arranged to work in a school for the specific purpose of gaining this training, others have worked in the school for a year or two, some for longer than that.You will be expected to have the following qualifications: UK degree. GCSE in English Language or Literature, Maths at grade 4 or above or equivalent.
